  • The book that topped the international online poll held in Agatha Christie?s 125th birthday year to discover which of her 80 crime books was the world?s favourite.

1939. Europe teeters on the brink of war. Ten strangers are invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast. Cut off from the mainland, with their generous hosts Mr and Mrs U.N. Owen mysteriously absent, they are each accused of a terrible crime. When one of the party dies suddenly they realise they may be harbouring a murderer among their number.

The 10 strangers include a reckless playboy, a troubled Harley Street doctor, a formidable judge, an uncouth detective, an unscrupulous mercenary, a God-fearing spinster, two restless servants, a highly decorated general and an anxious secretary. One by one they are picked off. Who will survive? And who is the killer? Copies of an ominous nursery rhyme hang in each room, the murders mimicking the awful fates of its ?Ten Little Soldier Boys?.

The clear winner in an international online poll held to discover the world?s favourite Agatha Christie book, this new paperback also coincides with a new 3-part BBC TV adaptation featuring a stellar ensemble cast: Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, Maeve Dermody, Burn Gorman, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens, Noah Taylor and Aidan Turner.

  • Chanakya Neeti is the story of Chanakya, conventionally known as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta. He was initially a professor of economics and political science at the ancient Takshashila University, and later on administered the first Maurya emperor, Chandragupta Maurya, to ascend to supremacy at a young age. Chanakya is one of the greatest figures of wisdom and knowledge in the Indian history; he is one of the finest philosophers and diplomat in the country?s past.

Chanakya was a King maker and crowned Chandragupta Maurya as the ruler and preferred to serve him as his mentor. The book is a dissertation on the model way of life and shows his in-depth understanding of the Indian ways. These realistic and potent tactics provide a path to live a systematic and designed life leading to success in all facets. If understood well, this book can be an answer to all everyday problems in one?s life.

Chanakya also introduced Neeti-Sutras, sayings or pithy sentences, which inform people about the ideal behavior that one should carry. He used these sutras to spruce Chandragupta and other chosen disciples in the art of ruling a kingdom. But these sutras are highly relevant to today?s times too due to Chanakya?s superb understanding of the timeless Indian mindset. It still stands to be one of the best management books for the current times.

Chanakya Neetis and Chanakya Sutras have been compiled together in this book to make his astuteness easily accessible to readers. This book was published by Diamond Books in 2012, and is available in paperback.

    Key Features:

    • This book discusses Chanakya?s influential strategies and ideologies in a very lucid manner for easier understanding.
    • The translation from Sanskrit to Bengali has made the read very convenient.

That said, she can?t remember much these days: the time of day, whether she?s eaten lunch, if her daughter?s come to visit, how much toast she?s eaten. Still, the notes about Elizabeth nag at her. When was the last time she spoke with her best friend? It feels like ages ago… Frustratingly, no one seems willing to help Maud find her: not the police nor Elizabeth?s son – not even Maud?s own daughter or granddaughter. It?s like they?re hiding something. Maud resolves to take matters into her own hands, and begins digging for the truth. There are many clues, but unhelpfully, they all seem to point to another unsolved disappearance: that of Maud?s sister Sukey just after the war. Could the mystery of Sukey?s disappearance lead Maud to the truth about Elizabeth? As Maud?s mind retreats into the past at a frightening pace, alienating her from her family and carers, vivid memories of what happened over fifty years ago come flooding back to give her quest new momentum. Strange Companions is a debut novel about a mind in the grips of dementia. Simultaneously a fast-paced mystery and a moving meditation on memory and identity and told through Mauds unforgettable voice, it humanises a condition most of us find impenetrable and frustrating.

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldnt resist. I also saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside – so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat. No one knows how much he risked for me.
